Volleyball Roundup: City High Stays Hot With 5-1 Performance in Runner-up Finish at Bettendorf Invite

City High has picked the perfect time to start playing its best volleyball of the season.
Class 4A No. 11 City High went 5-1 for the second time in as many tournaments on its way to a runner-up showing at the Bettendorf tournament on Saturday in Bettendorf.
City High earned wins over Rock Island (21-19, 21-6), Bettendorf (21-12, 15-21, 15-11), Rock Island Alleman (21-7, 22-20), Clinton (19-21, 21-12, 15-12) and Muscatine (21-14, 21-11).
The lone loss for the Little Hawks came in three sets to sixth-ranked Ankeny (17-21, 21-15, 12-15).
City High improved to 19-9 on the season with its 5-1 performance on Saturday and has now won 12 of its last 14 matches.
Ellie Evans and Kelsey Law each had 35 kills to lead City High while Evans had a team-high 48 digs and Law added 23 digs.
Brooke Bormann had 35 digs, Mackenzie Murphy had 34 digs and Eryn Dailey had 22 digs in the six matches.
Makayla Ribble had 54 assists and 15 digs while Lindsey Bolton had a team-high 72 assists.
With her 35 kills on Saturday Law eclipsed the 500-kill mark for her career while Murphy tallied the her 400th career kill on Saturday.
Evans collected her 500th career dig on Saturday after reaching 500 kills earlier this season.
Liberty High Wins Davis County Tournament
Liberty High won five consecutive matches on Saturday without dropping a set to claim the title at the Davis Country tournament for the second consecutive season.
Class 4A No. 14 Liberty High improved to 17-10 on the season with its 5-0 showing on Saturday that featured straight set wins over New London, Lynnville-Sully, WACO, Davis County and Cardinal.
LeeAnn Potter led Liberty High with 44 kills while Olivia Slattery added 26 kills and Sydney Woods had 19 kills and six ace serves.
Lauren Roman added 18 kills and Megan Harvey chipped in with 10.
Addie Schmierer led Liberty High with 37 digs while Hailey Hested had 83 kills in the five wins.
