Clear Creek Amana followed its standard recipe for success in Friday’s road trip to Clinton.
A steady diet of Andrew Rohret mixed with a healthy dose of Alex Figueroa all backed up by a dominant defense.
The result was a familiar result.
Figueroa rushed for 140 yards and Rohret ran for three touchdowns as Class 3A No. 8 Clear Creek Amana remained unbeaten with a 28-0 win over Clinton in a District 5 matchup at Coan Field in Clinton.
The shutout was the third of the season for Clear Creek Amana which improved to 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in District 5 play.
Clear Creek Amana limited Clinton (3-3, 0-2) to 26 yards rushing and 173 total yards as the River Kings were held scoreless for the first time since a 59-0 loss to Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the opening round of the 2015 Class 4A playoffs.
The three shutouts are the most in a season for the Clippers since posting three shutouts during a 6-0 start to the 2016 season.
Rohret scored a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs on quarterback sneaks to put Clear Creek Amana up 14-0.
The senior quarterback converted a fourth-and-1 with a quarterback sneak to put the Clippers up 7-0 with 2:34 left in the opening quarter.
Rohret then capped a 76-yard touchdown drive with his second 1-yard run of the first half to make it 14-0 CCA with 5:26 left in the first half.
Less than two minutes later Figueroa scored on a 3-yard run to give Clear Creek Amana a 21-0 halftime lead.
That was more than enough for the Clipper defense which forced two turnovers and came up with three sacks in the win.
Rohret added a 4-yard touchdown run with 6:29 left to cap the scoring and also did his part on defense with three tackles for loss and a sack to go with a fumble recovery from his outside linebacker spot.
Junior linebackers Grant Jensen and JJ Denny led the Clipper defensive effort with seven and six tackles respectively.
Jensen had a sack among two tackles for loss and sophomore defensive end TJ Bollers had a sack.
Figueroa cracked the 100-yard mark rushing for the third time this season and second consecutive game with his career-high 140 yards as Clear Creek Amana churned out 211 yards on the ground.
