Coming off a junior season in which he led Solon in tackles Adam Bock knew he had a home at linebacker on the Solon defense.

The question was how the Spartans would utilize the 6-foot-1, 215-pound Bock on the offensive side of the ball.

The answer to that question is simple – everywhere.

“He can play so many positions,” Solon coach Kevin Miller said. “He can play H, he can play running back or inside receiver. We could truly use him everywhere.”

Bock showed his versatility on Thursday in a 47-7 win over Davenport Assumption rushing for 59 yards and a touchdown and catching a 47-yard touchdown pass.

In his last two games Bock has rushed for 153 yards, caught three passes for 72 yards and scored six touchdowns helping Solon score 47 points in back-to-back games.

The offensive breakthrough from Bock provides another weapon to a Solon offense averaging 33.8 points per game.

“It’s tough to cover everybody when you have multiple guys that can make plays,” Bock said. “It’s tough for a defense to key in on one guy and it makes it really tough for them.”

Bock still leads the Spartans in tackles from his inside linebacker spot.

He has scored a defensive touchdown on a fumble recovery and has a couple of tackles for loss and a sack.

The versatile Bock also kicks off and punts.

“It just shows you what kind of an athlete he is,” Miller said. “It shows how dedicated he is and how he prepares and how coachable he is.”

Bock was at his versatile best in Thursday’s win at Davenport Assumption.

He gave Solon a 13-0 first-quarter lead when he broke several tackles to turn a swing pass into a spectacular 47-yard touchdown reception.

“We put a new play in this week, it was a little wrinkle from a play we’d been running previously,” Bock said of the touchdown catch. “Everybody just held their blocks the whole way and I got it in the end zone.”

Playing on a short week with the Thursday game the Spartans relied on Bock early while building an insurmountable lead.

He added a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and had 56 of his 59 rushing yards in the first half as Solon built a 40-7 halftime lead.

“We came in on Sunday and got our Monday practice in then,” Bock said. “It was a little different but I think we all came in really focused and it showed.”

Bock has rushed for a team-high 203 yards and three touchdowns on the season and added five receptions for 86 yards and three scores.
