Clear Creek Amana Holds Off Marion to Stay Unbeaten

Clear Creek Amana got off to a slow start and had to survive some tense moments late in its meeting with Marion on Friday at Thomas Park Field.
Neither of those prevented the Clippers from starting the season 4-0.
Andrew Rohret rushed for a career-high 213 yards and a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass and Clear Creek Amana stopped a two-point conversion late to hold on for a 17-15 win over Marion.
With the win Clear Creek Amana surpassed its win total from last season while starting a season with four consecutive wins for the second time in three seasons.
After a scoreless first quarter Clear Creek Amana took a 7-3 lead when Nolan Schwarting hauled in a 17-yard touchdown pass from Rohret for his second scoring grab in as many games.
Mitch Evans gave the Clippers a 10-3 halftime lead with a 43-yard field goal on the final play of the first half.
Rohret raced 65 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to put the Clippers up 17-3 but Marion rallied late.
Mark Horcher caught two touchdown passes from senior quarterback Trevor Paulsen in the final five minutes but Clear Creek Amana blocked an extra point and stopped a potential game-tying two-point conversion pass in the final minute.
Rohret finished 7-of-14 passing for 66 yards to go with his 213 rushing yards on 28 carries.
Sophomore tailback Alex Figueroa added 71 yards on the ground on 24 carries as the Clippers rolled up a season-high 277 rushing yards.
Schwarting had two receptions for 27 yards including his 17-yard touchdown grab while Sam Stevens caught two passes for 21 yards and TJ Bollers grabbed two passes for 11 yards.
Zach Kabbage and Evans each had interceptions for Clear Creek Amana and junior linebacker JJ Denny had a team-high seven tackles and a sack.
Jonah Upah had two tackles for a loss and a sack among his four tackles for Clear Creek Amana.
