Boys Cross Country Roundup: West High’s Greiner Runner-up to Defending 4A Champ at Bobcat Invite

Two of the top runners in the state dueled on Thursday in Marshalltown and it was the defending champion that came away victorious.
Defending Class 4A state champion Tim Sindt of Ankeny pulled away to win the 45th Bobcat Invitational in front of runner-up Kolby Greiner of West High Thursday at the Marshalltown Cross Country Course.
Sindt won the title in 15:39 while Greiner edged West Des Moines Dowling junior Will Ode for second in a time of 16:12.
The runner-up finish by Greiner helped West High to a sixth-place team finish with 168 points.
Top-ranked West Des Moines Dowling had four runners place in the top 10 and rolled to the team title with 45 points, 57 better than runner-up Waukee.
Pleasant Valley was third with 109, Dubuque Hempstead was fourth with 145 and Ankeny was fifth with 161 points.
Ken Wilbur placed 34th for West High in 17:20 while teammate Yousif Salama was 42nd in 1728 and Will Conrad was 44th in 17:29.
