A rare break in a rain-soaked stretch of weather on Tuesday created an opportunity for area golfers.

Luke Edwards and Kyle Spence made the most of that opportunity.

Edwards and Spence shot a 78 on Tuesday to earn top-10 finishes at the Crandic Boys Golf Meet at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City.

Spence placed fifth and Edwards was sixth at the nine-team meet both finishing nine strokes off the pace of Brock Barnhart of Cedar Rapids Kennedy who won the individual title with a three-under-par 69.

Edwards and Spence were close to even while finishing in a tie Tuesday.

Both golfers carded a 40 on the front nine and ended with a 38 on the back while shooting six-over-par.

Spence had eight pars and seven bogeys in his round and added a birdie on the par-five 15th and an eagle on the par-five sixth.

The senior helped West High to an eighth-place team finish with a 376 on its home course.

Edwards shot par on five of the final six holes and finished his round with 11 pars.

The junior had a birdie on the par-four 10th to go with five bogeys.

Behind the 78 from Edwards and an 88 from Campbell Johnson City High finished sixth with a 351.

Liberty High was led by Bo Gryp with an 87 and AJ Meyer with a 94 while placing seventh with a 374.
