Regina Rebounds From Week One Loss With Road Win at Anamosa

It took Regina a quarter to get rolling but the Regals got the rebound they were looking for.
Class 1A sixth-ranked Regina scored 20 second-quarter points to overcome an early 9-7 deficit on its way to a 34-15 win over Anamosa (1-1) in a non-district contest in Anamosa.
Scott Blondin rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns and Ashton Cook threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score as Regina (1-1) avoided its second consecutive 0-2 start.
Cook threw for 225 yards and Regina finished with 370 total yards a week after managing just 197 yards in a 44-7 season-opening loss to 3A top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier.
For the second straight game Regina fell into an early hole when Anamosa took a 6-0 lead on a touchdown run by Zac McLean on the Blue Raiders’ opening possession of the game.
This time Regina responded.
Kieler Brown gave Regina a 7-6 with a 12-yard touchdown run.
Anamosa took its final lead at 9-7 on a Maverick Tjaden field goal but Regina responded with 20 unanswered points to end the opening half.
Blondin scored the first of two 1-yard touchdown runs to put Regina up 14-9 and Cook made it 20-9 when the scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.
A 1-yard Blondin touchdown run gave the Regals a 27-9 halftime advantage.
Anamosa cut the lead to 27-15 on a Nolan McLean touchdown run on its opening possession of the third quarter but Regina had the answer.
Cook connected with Bryce Barnett on a seven-yard scoring strike to push the lead back to 34-15.
Barnett led four Regina receivers with at least four receptions, snagging five passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Alec Wick caught five passes for 75 yards while Scott Arendt had five receptions for 30 yards and Patrick Clark caught four passes for 39 yards.
Cook finished 20-of-33 through the air for 225 yards and a touchdown.
Nick Milder led the Regina defensive effort with a career-high 18 tackles that included a sack.
Jack Keller had six tackles and Blondin had five tackles for the Regals.
Levi Quinlan picked off a pair of passes for Regina.
Regina will host top-ranked Pella Christian in a rematch of last year’s state semifinal next week.
