Cross Country Invite: Keeney Wins Individual Title, West High Takes Team Title at Trojan Early Bird Invite

Ashley Keeney made her highly anticipated varsity cross country debut on Thursday.
The Liberty High freshman made it one to remember.
Keeney won the individual title at the Trojan Early Bird Invitational by nearly 40 seconds to lift Liberty High to a third-place finish.
Liberty High had three runners finish in the top four led by Keeney who won the title in 18:12.4, nearly 40 seconds in front of West High senior Deniz Ince who was runner-up in 18:51.6.
Camille Mac placed third in 19:23.8 and McKenzie Logan was fourth in 19:54.5 as Liberty High finished with 73 points.
West High had four runner finish in the top nine and won the team title with 42 points.
Pleasant Valley was second with 64 followed by Liberty High with 73 and North Scott with 78.
Katie Hoefer, Kiara Malloy-Salgado and Erica Buettner all joined Ince in the top 10.
Hoefer was seventh in 20:24.8, Malloy-Salgado was eighth in 20:34.4 and Buettner was ninth in 20:36.8.

Liberty High Boys Third at Season-Opening Meet
Freshman Ethan Keeney placed 11th and teammate Jack Kinzer was 12th to help Liberty High to a third-place finish at the season-opening Trojan Early Bird Invitational on Thursday at Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City.
Bettendorf won the team title with 25 points followed by North Scott with 47 and Liberty High with 81.
Davenport Assumption junior Chris Guise won the individual title in a time of 16:59.8.
Keeney was the top Liberty High finisher, placing 11th in a time of 18:14.3 in his first varsity race and Kinder was right behind at 18:26.3.
Junior Peter Woodward placed 18th in a time of 19:06.5 and Henry Krain was 19th in 19:07.1.
