West High senior Kyle Spence opened the season with a 10th place finish at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet on Thursday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.

Spence shot a four-over-par 76 on Thursday to finish five shots back of individual champion Dillon Burr of Linn-Mar.

Host Cedar Falls had four golfers finish in the top 10 on its way to the team title at the season-opening event that is the first of the tournaments that count toward MVC championships.

The Tigers shot a 295 on their home course to finish 23 strokes clear of Linn-Mar for the team title.

City High was tenth with a 352 while Liberty High was 13th with a 383, one stroke better than West High.

Campbell Johnson led a balanced City High effort with an 84 while teammate Luke Edwards shot an 85 and Lucas Ribble fired an 88.

Liberty High was led by Shane Alberts who shot a 91 and AJ Meyer who added a 94.

Spence opener with an even-par 36 on the front nine and shot a 40 on the back to finish with a 76.

Caleb Kirk added a 90 for West High.
