West High’s floor leader has found her future home.

Senior point guard Lauren Zacharias gave a verbal commitment to Wayne State on Tuesday announcing her future plans on Twitter.

“I’m very excited to announce that I have decided to commit to Wayne State College to further my academic and basketball career,” Zacharias wrote. “I’d like to thank my family, friends, teammates and coaches that have all helped me get to where I am now as a player and a person.”

A starter since her freshman season Zacharias is coming off the best season of her career.

She averaged career-highs in both points per game (9.7) and assists per game (4.0) as a junior while helping West High to the Class 4A state title.

Zacharias averaged 11.3 points and four rebounds per game in three state tournament wins including a 15-point, five-rebound, three-assist performance in the state title game.

The 5-foot-5 Zacharias has led West High in assists each of the past three seasons and enters her senior season with 248 career assists.

Zacharias shot 45 percent from the field as a junior including 36 percent from 3-point range and led the Women of Troy with 41 made 3-pointers while putting up career-best scoring numbers.

In addition to her career-high 9.7 points and team-leading 4.0 assists Zacharias led West High with 51 steals and averaged 3.3 rebounds per game a year ago.

Wayne State is a Division II program located in Wayne, Nebraska and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The Wildcats went 25-7 last season finishing second in the NSIC South Division.
