Baseball Roundup: West High Advances to Substate Final With Win Over Muscatine

One win down, one more to go for West High.
Class 4A fourth-ranked West High moved one win away from a fifth consecutive state tournament appearance with an 8-2 win over Muscatine (6-24) on Friday in a Class 4A, Substate 6 semifinal at West High.
West High (30-10) broke open a two-run game with a four-run sixth inning while advancing to the Substate 6 title game where it will host the winner of Monday’s semifinal between Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Cedar Rapids Washington on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Marcus Morgan earned the win allowing two runs on three hits while striking out six and Braden Houston fanned five in three hitless innings of relief as West High won for the 10th time in 11 games.
Houston, Austin Curtiss and Ben Madden all had two hits in the win while Lucas Karwal scored twice and Nick Biancuzzo drove in two runs.
Madden, Curtiss, Ryan Cooper, Houston and Karwal all had one RBI.
