Baseball Roundup: West High Downs Liberty High in First Meeting

Round one between future Mississippi Valley Conference rivals West High and Liberty High belonged to the Trojans.
Class 4A No. 4 West High jumped to a 6-0 lead and rolled to an 8-3 win over Liberty High in a non-conference contest on Monday at West High.
The win was the ninth straight for West High which improved to 29-9 while Liberty High dropped to 10-20 on the season.
West High scored three runs in the first and added three more in the third while building a 6-0 cushion it would never give up.
Ryan Cooper, Austin Curtiss, Jayson Barnes and Lucas Karwal all had two hits to pace the West High attack.
Barnes drove in two runs while Karwal and Cooper each doubled and Cooper scored two runs.
Jason Strunk went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored while Braden Houston, Nick Biancuzzo and Alex Schwickerath each drove in a run.
Tyler Stern earned the win for West High allowing two runs, on earned, on two hits while striking out six in four innings.
Nolan Frey went 2-for-4 to lead Liberty High while Tyler Dahm, Isaac Bender and Alec Boldt all had hits for the Lightning.

CCA Drops Fourth Straight
Clear Creek Amana dropped a non-conference contest to Grinnell 4-0 on Monday evening in Tiffin.
The Clippers dropped to 16-19 on the season with its fourth consecutive loss while Grinnell improved to 23-9.
Casey Ogden took the loss for Clear Creek Amana allowing four runs, three earned, on 10 hits in a complete game.
Ogden, Sam Young and Camden Smyka all had singles and Camden Armstrong had a double for the Clippers.
