West High sweeps Cedar Falls
West High continued its late season surge on Wednesday with a sweep of Cedar Falls in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Iowa City.
West High won the opener 1-0 and took the night cap 12-1 in five innings to push its winning streak to seven in a row.
The Women of Troy improved to 15-17 on the season and 8-14 in MVC play with the sweep while Cedar Falls dropped to 9-23 and 4-16 in conference play.
Regina Splits Doubleheader With West Liberty
Regina snapped a season-high four-game losing skid and secured a doubleheader split with a 5-1 win over Class 3A No. 12 West Liberty in a River Valley Conference South Division doubleheader on Wednesday in Iowa City.
West Liberty won the opener 5-2 before 2A eighth-ranked Regina forced the split with a 5-1 win in the nightcap.
Regina improved to 18-15 on the season and 12-4 in RVC play while West Liberty moved to 19-8 and 11-4 in conference play.
Paisley Gardner tossed six innings of two-hit ball to earn the win in game two.
Gardner struck out four and walked seven and also went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the game-two win.
Jess Hunter, Taylor O’Conner and Emma Nibaur each had two hits and drove in a run in game two.
Lauren Marth had a hit and an RBI while Annie Gahan and Katie Bracken each added a hit in the win.
Bracken took the loss in game one allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out eight in a complete game.
Hunter, Bracken, Gardner, Marth, Taylor O’Conner, Annie Gahan and Nibaur all had hits for Regina in the opener.
