Softball Roundup: City High Busts Out With Sweep of Waterloo East

City High busted out of a small slump in a big way on Monday.
After dropping five of its previous six games City High scored outscored Waterloo East 22-3 while sweeping the Trojans in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Iowa City.
City High won the opener 13-1 in five innings and took the nightcap 9-2 to improve to 19-13 on the season and 14-6 in MVC play.
Waterloo East dropped to 5-23 and 5-15 in MVC play.
Carey Koenig had a grand slam and five RBI as City High pounded 12 hits in the opener.
Ella Cook went 3-for-4 with a double and scored three runs and Ayana Lindsey was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Alexa Fredericks was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Keli Potter had a two-run double and scored a run. Brooke Bormann, Briana Bentler and Georgia Kimm all had a hit in the win.
Lindsey earned the win in game one allowing one run on three hits.
Cook picke dup the win in the nightcap allowing two runs on six hits while striking out two and also went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs.
Sydney Fellows was 3-for-4 with a home run and Lindsey went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
Potter went 2-for-3 with a run while Bentler had a two-run double and Bormann had a hit and scored two runs.

West High Sweeps Cedar Rapids Washington
West High pushed its winning streak to five with a sweep of Cedar Rapids Washington in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader on Monday in Iowa City.
The Women of Troy won the opener 8-1 and took the nightcap 16-3 in three innings.
West High improved to 13-17 on the season and 6-14 in MVC play with the sweep while Cedar Rapids Washington dropped to 2-26 and 1-17.
Eva Burbidge tossed a one-hitter in the opener, striking out eight and walking one.
Cynthia Hull went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs and Brooke Goodman drove in two runs for West High in game one.
Kyra Stoll, Kiahna Hill and Rylee Goodfellow all added two hits for the Women of Troy.
Ryleigh Mulcahey earned the win in game two, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out two.
Burbidge went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI and Kate Sehr was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI to lead West High.
Goodman was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored and Stoll went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Abigail Arens and Kylie Heisdorffer each had two RBI for the Women of Troy.
