Following back-to-back rough outings Mitch Gahan was in need of a bounce back performance on Monday.

Gahan got exactly what he was looking for.

The Regina senior no-hit Durant in the first game of a River Valley Conference South Division doubleheader as Class 2A third-ranked Regina snapped a two-game conference losing skid.

Jayden Kies followed with a four-hit shutout in the nightcap as Regina improved to 17-6 on the season and 11-2 in RVC play.

Durant dropped to 6-15 on the season and 4-11 in RVC play.

Gahan struck out 10 and walked one in the game-one no-hitter as Regina won the opener 6-0.

The senior went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI in game two as Regina completed the sweep with a 7-0 win in the nightcap.

Gahan allowed just two baserunners in the no-hitter that stopped a personal two-game losing skid and improved his season record to 5-2.

The right-hander issued a walk to the second batter of the game Ben Orr and then retired 17 consecutive Wildcats before Orr reached on an error leading off the seventh.

Ryne Schooley provided all the offense Gahan would need with a second-inning grand slam that was part of a five-run Regal inning.

Gahan went 2-for-3 in the opener while Evan Suchomel and Kies each had an RBI.

Kies struck out four and didn’t walk a batter in a complete game shutout in the nightcap.

Masen Miller went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Hunter Liebermann and Trent Hoogerwerf each drove in runs in the nightcap.

Liberty High Holds Off Pleasantville at Principal Park

Every prep team hopes to end their season at Principal Park in Des Moines.

Liberty High got a little sneak peak at the state tournament venue on Monday.

Liberty scored three runs in the third inning and held on for a 5-3 win over Pleasantville (17-9) in a non-conference contest at Principal Park.

Nolan Frey tossed six strong innings to earn the win as Liberty High improved to 8-13 on the season with its third win in four games.

Frey allowed one unearned run on six hits and struck out five in six innings and Tyler Dahm and Ethan O’Donnell combined to close out the game to secure the win.

Isaac Bender and Keian Secrist each had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run for the Lightning while Dahm walked twice and scored two runs.

Clear Creek Amana Sweeps CPU

Clear Creek Amana evened its season record at 12-12 with a sweep of Center Point-Urbana in a WAMAC Conference doubleheader in Center Point on Monday.

The Clippers won the opener 10-5 and scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning to complete the sweep with a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

Clear Creek Amana moved to 8-10 in WAMAC play with the sweep while Center Point-Urbana dropped to 10-17 on the season and 5-15 in WAMC play and has now lost 11 in a row.

Camden Smyka went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and four RBI to lead the Clippers in the opener.

Jordan Wolfe and Sam Young each had two hits in game one while Camden Armstrong had a hit, scored twice and drove in a run.

David Jensen earned the win allowing five runs, two earned, on seven hits in four innings. Grant Jensen worked three innings of one-hit relief to secure the win.

Smyka tossed 5 2/3 strong innings in the nightcap, allowing four runs on one hit while striking out five.

Freshman Brock Reade allowed one hit in 2 1/3 shutout innings of relief to pick up the win.

Casey Ogden had two hits and scored a run to lead CCA while David Jensen and Cody Ogden each had a hit and scored two runs.

Smyka, Ben Swails and Wolfe each had an RBI in the game two win.

West High Swept by Wahlert

Dubuque Wahlert used a pair of strong pitching performances to sweep Class 4A fifth-ranked West High in a Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division doubleheader at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City on Monday.

Dubuque Wahlert won the opener 5-0 and completed the sweep with a 5-3 win in the nightcap as the Golden Eagles improved to 14-12 and 10-9 in MVC play with their eighth win in their last 11 games.

West High managed just 10 hits in the doubleheader while dropping to 18-7 and 10-6 in MVC play after dropping both games of a doubleheader for the first time this season.

Wahlert starters Jared Walter and Owen Funke combined to allow just nine hits in 12 innings in a pair of wins.

West High managed just four hits in the opener as Lucas Karwal, Braden Houston, Jason Strunk and Nick Biancuzzo singled to account for all the Trojans offense.

Austin West took the loss in game one, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out 10.

West High took a 3-1 lead after three innings in the nightcap but Wahlert responded with a four-run fourth inning and never trailed again.

Austin Curtiss was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead West High while Karwal added two hits.

West had a single, Houston singled and scored two runs and Jayson Barnes drove in a run for the Trojans.

Freshman Marcus Morgan took the loss allowing five runs, one earned, on seven hits in four innings.

City High Gets Road Split at Hempstead

City High bounced back from a 5-2 loss in the opener to salvage a split with 7-5 win over Dubuque Hempstead in game two of a Monday matinee Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Dubuque.

The Little Hawks moved to 15-11 on the season and 9-9 in MVC play while Hempstead is now 14-7 and 11-6 in MVC play.

Brady Herzic took the loss in the opener allowing five runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Travis Reyhons had two hits and Liam McComas homered to lead the City High offense in game one.

City High scored six runs in the final three innings to rally for a 7-5 win in the nightcap.

DJ Heck was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and two RBI to lead City High while Reyhons had a hit and scored twice.

McComas and Sam Lewers each had a double, a run and an RBI while Ben Steve and Zach Kuepker each drove in a run.

Quenton Max earned the win allowing four unearned runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. Jacob Dykes worked the final 2 1/3 innings allowing one run on three hits.
