Baseball Roundup: West High Rallies Past CR Jefferson in Completion of Suspended Game

West High rallied for an 8-7 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Saturday in the completion of suspended Mississippi Valley Conference game from Monday in Iowa City.
Class 4A sixth-ranked West High scored twice in the fourth and sixth innings to overcome an early 6-4 deficit while improving to 18-5 on the season and 10-4 in MVC play.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson dropped to 16-8 and 9-5 with the loss that completed a doubleheader sweep for West High which won the opener 15-4 in five innings on Monday.
Lucas Karwal went 3-for-3 with a double and a run while Nick Biancuzzo and Ryan Cooper each had a hit and drove in two runs for the Trojans.
Alex Schwickerath and Austin Curtiss each had a hit and an RBI in the win while Braden Houston, Jason Strunk and Noah Aanestad all scored runs.
Houston earned the win allowing four runs on four hits while striking out four and walking four In 4 1/3 innings.

West Branch Drops Non-Conference Contest
West Branch fell to Grinnell 6-2 in a non-conference game in Grinnell on Saturday.
The Bears dropped to 6-10 with the loss while Grinnell improved to 17-6 on the season.
Matt Paulsen and Tanner Lukavsky each had two hits to lead West Branch while Trey Eagle had a double and scored a run.
Pete Espensen and Mitchell Knoop each drove in a run for the Bears while Brady Lukavsky had a hit and scored a run.
Espensen took the loss for West Branch allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits in five innings.
Jaden Hierseman worked a scoreless inning of relief for the Bears.
