Baseball Roundup: Solon Keeps Rolling With Sweep of Williamsburg

Solon switched venues for its schedule home doubleheader with Williamsburg on Thursday but that didn’t change the results for the Spartans.
Class 3A sixth-ranked Solon continued its conference domination on Thursday with a WAMAC cross-divisional sweep of Williamsburg at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids.
Solon won the opener 9-0 and took the nightcap 10-0 in five innings to improve to 19-6 on the season and 15-3 in WAMAC contests.
The Spartans have won nine of their last 10 conference contests with seven of those wins coming by seven runs or more.
That trend continued on Thursday as Solon outhit Williamsburg 16-4 in the doubleheader while scoring double digit runs for the 10th time in 18 conference games.
Cam Miller picked up the win in the opener striking out eight and allowing just two hits in five innings.
Tyler Linderbaum and Trevor Schuchmann each worked a scoreless inning of relief to close out the win.
Spencer Wegmann homered, scored twice and drove in three runs in the opener while Luke Ira and Ryan Geistkemper each had two hits.
Ira was 2-for-3 and scored three runs while Geistkemper doubled and drove in two.
Kendrick Harris and Payton Bandy each had an RBI in the game one win.
Ira secured the sweep, striking out 11 in a five-inning one-hitter and going 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI in a game-two win.
Miller went 2-for-4 with two RBI in game two while Zach Wegmann was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Tyler Linderbaum and Harris each had a hit, an RBI and scored two runs in game two.
Williamsburg dropped to 3-21 on the season and 3-15 in WAMAC play.
