After being swept in a doubleheader by Solon on Thursday night Clear Creek Amana entered Friday’s non-conference contest looking for a spark.

David Jensen provided just that for the Clippers.

Jensen limited Regina to a season-low one run in a complete game victory as Clear Creek Amana bounced back with a 4-1 win over Class 2A second ranked Regina on Friday at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City.

Clear Creek Amana improved to 9-10 on the season with the win while Regina dropped to 14-4 with its second loss in as many nights.

Jensen wiggled out of jams all night, scattering 10 hits in the complete game win.

The senior struck out two and walked two while allowing one earned run and also went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.

TJ Bollers had a double and an RBI for Clear Creek Amana while Tyler Schrepfer had two hits and scored a run.

Evan Suchomel and Trent Hoogerwerf each had three hits to lead Regina while Mitch Gahan, Jayden Kies, Nick Brandt and Masen Miller each had a hit.

Alex Meister took the loss for Regina allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits in three innings.

Sixth-ranked West High Splits With No. 4 CR Prairie

Since meeting in the 2016 state title game West High and Cedar Rapids Prairie have developed a bit of a rivalry as two of the top programs on the eastern side of the state.

In what has become an annual occurrence the two Mississippi Valley Conference rivals met on Friday in a battle of top-10 teams.

Class 4A sixth-ranked West High and fourth-ranked Prairie split an MVC doubleheader on Friday in Iowa City with West High winning the opener 13-8 and Prairie rallying for a 9-4 win in the nightcap.

West High moved to 15-5 and 8-4 with the split while Prairie is 15-5 on the season and 9-3 in MVC play.

The Trojans used an eight-run second inning to take control in the opener.

West High hammered out 15 hits in the game-one win including home runs by Lucas Karwal, Ryan Cooper and Alex Granner.

Karwal finished 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI while Cooper was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.

Granner was 2-for-3 with a solo home runs and Jason Strunk, Braden Houston and Alex Schwickerath all had two hits for West High.

Houston earned the win allowing eight runs on 10 hits while striking out six in five innings.

Prairie scored six runs in the final two innings of the nightcap to force the split.

Karwal went 2-for-3 and scored two runs and Strunk was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the nightcap.

Cooper homered for the second straight game and finished with three RBI for West High.

Noah Aanestad took the loss allowing four runs on two hits in 2/3 innings of relief.

City High Gets Back on Track

City High snapped a four-game losing skid with a doubleheader sweep at Waterloo West on Friday.

Coming off four consecutive losses to Mississippi Valley Conference rivals West High and Linn Mar, the Little Hawks got back on track on Friday winning the opener 10-6 and taking the nightcap 8-6.

City High improved to 11-8 on the season and 6-6 in MVC play while Waterloo West dropped to 2-14 and 0-12 in conference play.
