Fairfield remained hot with a doubleheader sweep of Liberty High on Wednesday at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids.

The Trojans won the opener 18-7 in five innings and took the nightcap 12-4 to push its winning streak to eight and improve to 15-3 on the season.

Liberty High dropped to 4-12 with its fourth straight loss.

Isaac Bender and Alec Boldt each had two hits in the opener to lead Liberty High.

Bender had a triple and drove in two runs while Boldt doubled and had a pair of RBI.

Nolan Frey had a double and drove in a run for the Lightning while Sam Funke had a hit and scored two runs.

Cayden Duhaime took the loss for Liberty High allowing eight runs, five earned on five hits in three innings.

In the nightcap Tyler Dahm had a double and scored a run and Bender, Frey, Funke and Ethan O’Donnell all had hits and drove in runs for the Lightning.

Frey took the loss allowing five runs on four hits while striking out four in four innings.

Solon Falls at Top-Ranked Davenport Assumption

Class 3A fifth-ranked Solon fell to top-ranked Davenport Assumption 11-2 in a matchup of ranked non-conference foes on Wednesday in Davenport.

Solon dropped to 14-5 on the season while Davenport Assumption improved to 15-5.
