Class 4A second-ranked West High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Cedar Rapids Washington on Friday in Iowa City winning 7-6 and falling 9-1.
West High moved to 8-3 and 2-2 in MVC while Cedar Rapids Washington is now 6-3 on the year and 2-2 in MVC games.
Austin West worked two innings for relief to earn the win in a 7-6 West High victory.
Ryan Cooper allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits in the final two innings to secure the save.
Owen McAreavy homered and drove in three runs to pace West High while Braden Houston had a double, an RBI and scored a run and Carter Johnson had a pinch hit RBI single.
Nick Biancuzzo and Alex Granner each had two hits for West High in the win.
Cedar Rapids Washington scored five runs in the third inning to break open a one-run game in the opener.
Lucas Karwal, Jason Strunk and Chase Calderwood each had a hit in the loss for West High.
Houston took the loss, allowing five unearned runs while striking out five and walking one.

Davenport Central Sweeps Liberty High
Liberty High dropped both games of a doubleheader to Davenport Central on Friday falling 2-0 and 9-1 in Davenport.
The Lightning dropped to 0-8 on the season while Davenport Central improved to 7-2 while stretching its winning streak to seven.
Nolan Frey tossed four strong innings while taking the loss in the opener.
Frey allowed two runs on four hits while striking out two and walking three.
Liberty High had just three hits in the loss as Keian Secrist, Alec Boldt and Ethan O’Donnell each had a single.
Secrist went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Frey had two hits in the night cap as Liberty High fell 9-1.
Isaiah Pihl had a double and Isaac Bender had a hit and scored a run.
Zach Anderson took the loss allowing five runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings.

North Scott Downs Regina
Blake Berns and Ryne Schooley each homered but it wasn’t enough for Regina in a 9-4 non-conference loss to North Scott on Friday in Eldridge.
The Lancers scored six runs in the first inning and never let Regina get closer than five runs while improving to 6-1 on the season.
Regina dropped to 4-2 with the loss.
Nine different Regals had a hit on Friday led by Schooley and Berns who each hit solo home runs.
Evan Suchomel had a hit and scored a run and Alex Meister had a single and drove in two runs.
Joey Molony took the loss allowing six runs on two hits in an inning.

City High Splits With Cedar Falls
City High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Cedar Falls on Friday in Cedar Falls.
Cedar Falls won the opener 3-0 and City High bounced back to win the nightcap 11-5.
City High moved to 5-4 on the season and is 2-2 in MVC play while Cedar Falls is 4-5 on the year and 2-2 in conference contests.
