Bridges Finishes Sixth at State Golf Meet After Final Round 73

A solid start to his first career state tournament appearance put Ted Bridges in medal contention after one round.
It was a strong finish on Friday that earned Bridges his hardware.
Bridges shot a three-over-par 73 on Friday to finish sixth at the Class 2A state golf tournament at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown with a 36-hole score of 149.
The 73 on Friday’s final round was three strokes better than Bridges opening round score and moved the West Branch sophomore from a tie for 10th to sixth place.
Dike-New Hartford senior Bo Weissenfluh shot a two-over-par 72 for the second straight day to claim the individual title with a 144.
Weissenfluh finished one stroke in front of Panorama sophomore Kolby Shackelford who shot a 73 on Friday to finish with a 145.
Day-one leader Jared Tigges of Carrroll Kuemper shot a 76 on Friday and finished in a tie with teammate Nate Mertz for third while Sheldon senior Tyler Merley was fifth with a 148.
Bridges was one of five West Branch golfers to improve their score on Friday as the Bears took 25 strokes off their opening-round score with a 314.
Brady Lukavsky shot an 80 on Friday to finish 35th with a 162 while senior Trevor Thein fired a 79 to place 38th with a 164.
West Branch finished eighth with a two-day score of 643, one stroke back of seventh-place Roland-Story.
Carroll Kuemper carded a 302 on back-to-back days to win the team title by 15 strokes over runner-up PCM.
Des Moines Christian was third with a 623 and Dike-New Hartford was fourth with a 629.
Bridges opened his round on Friday with 10 consecutive pars and was one-under following a birdie on the par-five second.
The junior had four bogies on his final six holes to finish his round three over.
Regina sophomore Mark Schomer shot an 83 on Friday and finished 44th with a two-day total of 167.
