Baseball Roundup: Regina Rolls in Season Opener in Mount Pleasant

Class 2A second-ranked Regina pounded out 15 hits in an 11-1 season-opening win at Mount Pleasant on Monday.
Eight different Regals had a hit in Monday’s opener, including five with multiple hits, and Regina finished with seven extra-base hits.
Ryne Schooley and Trent Hoogerwerf each homered and scored twice to lead the Regina attack.
Hoogerwerf and Blake Berns each had two hits in the win while Ryan Schott, Nick Brandt and Mitch Gahan had two hits apiece.
Jayden Kies tripled and drove in three runs and Schooley and Berns each drove in two.
Gahan picked up the win, striking out nine and allowing one run on four hits over four innings.
Joey Molony worked three scoreless innings of relief.

City High Splits Doubleheader With Davenport West
City High split a season-opening doubleheader with Class 4A No. 10 Davenport West on Monday at Mercer Park in Iowa City.
Davenport West won the opener 7-0 and City High rallied from a 5-0 deficit to take the nightcap 9-5.
In the opening Brady Herzic took the loss for City High allowing five runs, three earned, in four innings.
DJ Heck, Travis Reyhons and Quenton Max all had a hit for City High.
Davenport West jumped to a 5-0 lead after 1 ½ innings in the opening but City High rallied for the win.
Ry Threlkeld-Wiegand earned the wining giving up three earned runs in six innings.
Jacob Dykes worked a scoreless seventh to earn the save.
Liam McComas had a pair of doubles and three hits to lead City High and Cole Milder had a two-run double in the win.
