With five state team titles and seven state medalists West Branch boasts a golf pedigree that can stand with almost any in the state.

The Bears added another chapter to its rich tradition of success on Friday.

West Branch won the Class 2A district meet at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Wapello to return to the state meet for the first time since 2006.

Ted Bridges fired a six-over-par 78 to earn runner-up medalist honors as West Branch shot a 325 to win the team title.

Central Lee claimed the other team spot at the Class 2A state meet that will be held Thursday and Friday at American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown.

Brady Lukavsky shot an 80 for West Branch and Trevor Thein fired an 83 as four Bears finished with an 84 or better.

Kaleb Sexton shot a 42 on both the front and back to finish with an 84.

Regina sophomore Mark Schomer fired an 80 to earn an individual qualifying spot.

McCarty Qualifies in Class 3A

Clear Creek Amana sophomore Brandon McCarty is headed to the state golf meet.

McCarty fired an even-par 72 to finish tied for second at the Class 3A district meet at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa on Thursday.

Lucas Scherf of Grinnell shot a 69 to win the individual title while McCarty and Spencer Tucker of Oskaloosa each shot a 72 to finish in a tie for second.

McCarty will take part on the Class 3A state meet on Thursday and Friday at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
