Golf Roundup: West Branch Advances With Third-Place Finish at Sectional

West Branch didn’t post its best score of the season at its Class 2A sectional meet on Friday but the Bears did enough to keep their season alive.
Barely.
West Branch edged Regina by one stroke at the 2A sectional meet at Wahkonsa Country Club in Durant on Friday to claim the third and final spot at next week’s district meet.
Kaleb Sexton shot an 86 to lead West Branch as the Bears finished with a 352.
Wilton won the team title with a 329 and Tipton shot a 340 to join West Branch at the 2A district meet scheduled for May 18 at Heritage Oaks in Wapello.
Regina sophomore Mark Schomer fired a 78 to place third and advance to districts as an individual qualifier.
Ted Bridges and Trever Thein each shot an 88 for West Branch while Brady Lukavsky carded a 90 for the Bears.
Nic Hein shot a 90 and Jake Phillips a 91 for Regina.

CCA's McCarty Places Third at 3A Sectional
Clear Creek Amana sophomore Brandon McCarty fired a one-over-par 73 to place third at the Class 3A sectional meet on Friday at Bos Landen Golf Course in Pella.
McCarty matched Pella sophomore Trey Wood with a 73 and was two strokes off the pace of individual medalist Lucas Scherf of Grinnell.
The third-place finish qualified McCarty for the 3A District meet at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa on May 17.
Solon had a pair of individual district qualifiers in senior Ethan Yahr and junior Joe Stahle.
Stahle and Yahr each shot an 82 on Friday to advance to district play.
