West High had to wait a few extra days for its first outdoor meet of the season.

The wait didn’t do anything to slow down the Trojans.

West High won nine events and cruised to the team title on Thursday at the 32nd Annual Wilkinson Relays at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids.

The Trojans had six individual champions and added a trio of relay titles while finishing 37 points in front of runner-up Linn-Mar in the team standings with 143 points.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy was third with 75 points at the 13-team meet while City High scored 10 points and Liberty High had five in its first varsity competition.

Austin West won the 400 hurdles (54.36) and long jump (21-5) and anchored the West High 4×400 relay team to a first-place finish.

Gabe Caruthers won the 200 (22.56), Jeff Garbutt claimed the title in the 800 (2:02.61) and Kolby Greiner won the 3,200 in 9:46.92.

West High also got a title from Landon Green in the shot put with a toss of 50-2.

The Trojan foursome of Jackson Steburg, Devlin Lockman, Andre White and Caruthers won the sprint medley relay in 1:36.36 while Tyuss Bell, White, Ehab Abdalla and Yousif Salama won the distance medley in 3:56.83.

The 4×400 relay team of Ethan McAreavy, Mason Sorge, Seybian Sims and West put the finishing touches on the team title with a first-place finish in 3:35.8.

Liberty High finished fourth in the distance medley in 4:02.37 and was sixth in the 4×400 in 3:48.89

City High Winx 4×400 at Mount Pleasant

The City High boys track team won the 4×400 relay and added four runner-up finishes at the Mount Pleasant Co-Ed Invitational on Thursday at Maple Leaf Stadium in Mount Pleasant.

City High’s foursome of Daniel Brown, Lucas Firmstone, JP Rethwisch and Zach Jones won the 4×400 relay in 3:28.72 to highlight the evening for the Little Hawks.

City High added relay runner-up finishes in the shuttle hurdle, 4×200 and 4×800 and Max DePrenger finished second in the 400 hurdles.
