The awards continue to pile up for City High senior standout Ashley Joens.
After earning all-conference, all-state and Miss Iowa Basketball honors earlier this month Joens added another prestigious award to her postseason haul this week when she was named Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year.
Joens becomes the third City High player to earn the award joining Kelly Krei (2008) and Haley Lorenzen (2014).
A 6-foot guard Joens led the state in scoring at 30.9 points and averaged 11.8 rebounds per game while leading City High to a 25-1 record and a Class 5A runner-up finish.
Joens shot 62 percent from the field and an impressive 61 percent from 3-point range while leading the state in both free throw attempts (254) and makes (204).
The Iowa State recruit also averaged 3.3 steals, 3.1 assists and 1.7 blocks per game and has a 3.69 GPA.
Joens is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award that is announced later this month.
