West High’s Sims, McCaffery Unanimous MVC First-Team Picks

On Tuesday West High secured its eighth consecutive trip to the state state tournament.
Less than 24 hours later and more than six days before the Trojans open state tournament play the awards are beginning to roll in.
West High had a pair of players earn first-team honors and coach Steve Bergman was named Mississippi Division coach of the year when the Mississippi Valley Conference announced its postseason awards on Wednesday.
Senior Seybian Sims and junior Patrick McCaffery were both unanimous first-team picks in the Mississippi Division while junior point guard Dante Eldridge was a second-team selection.
Sims averaged 14.6 points and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 76 percent from the field.
The 6-foot-7 forward added a team-high 30 blocked shots while averaging 2.3 assists per game.
McCaffery led West High in scoring at 20.6 points per game and averaged 6.4 rebounds and a team-best 1.4 steals.
Eldridge averaged 11.3 points and led the Trojans with 2.6 assists per game.
Bergman earned divisional coach of the year honors after directing West High to a 19-4 record that included a 14-2 conference mark and a Mississippi Division title.
Seniors Evan Flitz and Hakeem Odunsi were both honorable mention selections for West High.
City High sophomore Keshawn Christian was a second-team pick in the Valley Division.
Christian averaged 12.1 points and 5 rebounds and led the Little Hawks with 1.5 steals per game.
Juniors Ry Threlkeld-Wiegand and Antonio Turner were both honorable mention selections for City High.
