Boys Basketball Roundup: Clear Creek Amana, Liberty High Fall in Substate Quarterfinals

Liberty High dropped a heartbreaker in its first ever postseason game falling to Fort Madison 50-47 in a Class 3A, Substate 5 quarterfinal on Monday in Mount Pleasant.
Kaleb Cresswell scored a game-high 20 to lead Fort Madison (14-9) into the substate semifinals where it will face top-ranked Mount Pleasant on Thursday.
Liberty High closed its inaugural season 8-14.
The Lightning led 26-17 at halftime before Fort Madison rallied late.
Iziah Poulsen led Liberty High with 18 points while Andre Brandon added 10 and Sam Funke had nine.

Independence Ends Clear Creek Amana’s Season
Clear Creek Amana couldn’t hang on to a three-point halftime lead, falling to Independence 54-44 in a Class 3A, Substate 3 quarterfinal on Monday in South Tama.
Independence (15-8) advanced to the Substate 3 semifinals with its third win of the season over the Clippers and will face South Tama on Thursday.
Clear Creek Amana finished the season 9-13.
The loss spoiled a monster performance for CCA freshman TJ Bollers who had a double-double with 17 points and 18 rebounds.
Nolan Schwarting added 11 points and Darius Moore had six for the Clippers.
