Girls Basketball Roundup: City High, West High Advance to Class 5A Regional Finals

City High took the first step toward a return trip to the state tournament on Saturday.
Top-ranked City High raced to a 63-21 halftime lead and defeated Burlington 83-36 in a Class 5A, Region 3 semifinal in Iowa City.
Ashley Joens had a game-high 35 points as City High improved to 22-0 on the season and advanced to face No. 13 Bettendorf (17-5) in the Region 3 title game on Tuesday.
Aubrey Joens had 17 points, Paige Rocca had 13 and Rose Nkumu had nine for City High.
Burlington closed the season 7-16.

West High Pulls Away From Linn-Mar
West High used a 19-point third quarter to break open a seven-point halftime game on its way to a 61-44 win over Linn-Mar on Saturday in a Class 5A, Region 2 semifinal in Iowa City.
Ninth-ranked West High improved to 15-7 with the win and will travel to eighth-ranked Pleasant Valley (21-1) on Tuesday in the Region 2 title game.
Logan Cook scored 10 points to lead five West High players with at least seven points.
Paige Beckner had nine points while Rachael Saunders and Emma Koch each had eight and Cailyn Morgan added seven.
Ally Johnson had a game-high 13 points for Linn-Mar as the Lions closed the season 3-19.
