Another postseason meet, another win for the Solon wrestling team.

Solon followed up a sectional title last Saturday and a regional dual win on Tuesday with a strong showing at the Class 2A, District 2 meet in DeWitt on Saturday.

The Spartans crowned three champions and qualified five wrestlers for next week’s state meet while claiming the district team title with 106 points.

Zeb Gnida, Mike Hoyle and Tyler Linderbaum all earned district titles as the Spartans finished 32.5 points in front of runner-up Dyersville Beckman for the team crown.

Andy Brokaw and Zack Bevans each advanced to the state meet with runner-up performances on Saturday.

Gnida (40-9) was the first Spartan to secure a trip to state edging fifth-ranked Caleb Fuessley of Center Point-Urbana 6-4 in sudden victory for the 120-pound title.

The seventh-ranked sophomore will take on Ryan Munoz (26-20) of Woodward-Granger in his state tournament opener next week.

Hoyle and Linderbaum each added titles for Solon with wins over ranked opponents.

No. 5 Hoyle (41-7) won a 4-3 decision over eighth-ranked Owen Grover of Dyersville Beckman to claim the 182-pound title.

Third-ranked Linderbaum (34-0) kept his season record unblemished with a 4-1 decision over No. 7 Blake Bradley of Dubuque Wahlert.

Hoyle will face No. 10 Conner Huss (39-6) of MOC-Floyd Valley in the opening round of the 2A state meet while Linderbaum will take on West Delaware freshman Carson Petlon (17-18) in his state opener.

Brokaw (31-21) secured his first trip to state with a runner-up finish at 138 pounds and Bevans (31-10) was runner-up at 152 pounds.
