For the second straight season Clear Creek Amana will have a wrestler at the state meet.

Junior Andrew Rohret made sure of that on Saturday.

Rohret pinned Centerville senior Tiger Terpstra to win the 145-pound title at the Class 2A, District 3 meet at Fairfield and secure the first state meet trip of his career.

The title by Rohret helped Clear Creek Amana to a fifth-place team finish with 49 points.

Rohret (37-13) edged Justis Dengler of West Liberty 4-2 in the semifinals and put Terpstra on his back 50 seconds into the third period to earn the district title.

Rohret will face ninth-ranked Joey Busse (41-4) of Humboldt in his state tournament opener next Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Clear Creek Amana had a pair of third place finishers as Sam Stevens and Tanner Cochran came up a win shy of a state meet berth.

Stevens (33-16) pinned Fairfield sophomore Jonah Cooper in the 113-pound semifinals but lost an 18-2 tech fall to No. 5 Nathan Genobana of Centerville in the title match and fell to West Burlington/Notre Dame freshman Grifen Molle 13-9 in the wrestle back match.

Cochran (35-12) finished third at 220 pounds.

Liberty High couldn’t secure a state qualifier in its first district meet as Ashton Barker (26-10) placed third and Gavin Luze (11-22) and Jared Alger (18-19) each placed fourth.
