Boys Basketball Roundup: West Branch Routs Mid-Prairie in RVC Rematch

West Branch needed a strong second half to put away Mid-Prairie in the first meeting between the two teams last month.
The Bears took care of things much earlier in Friday’s rematch.
West Branch bolted to a 44-15 halftime lead and cruised to 71-34 win over Mid-Prairie (2-10) in a River Valley Conference South Division tilt in Wellman.
Beau Cornwell poured in a game-high 25 and Tanner Lukavsky added 20 points, nine rebounds and four steals as West Branch won for the fourth time in five games.
A 68-59 win over Mid-Prairie started the recent hot streak for the Bears.
West Branch led by just four points at halftime of that first meeting back on December 19.
On Friday the Bears roared out of the gates and never let up.
West Branch got 10 points from Brett Schiele and seven points and four rebounds from Ben Thompson while improving to 7-6 on the season and 6-6 in RVC play.

Cedar Rapids Xavier Uses Strong Fourth Quarter to Edge City High
Class 3A sixth-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier outscored City High 20-4 in the fourth quarter en route to a 58-43 win over the Little Hawks on Friday in Iowa City.
Jackson Joens had a game-high 18 points and Matt Mims added 17 as Cedar Rapids Xavier moved to 7-4 on the season and 4-3 in MVC play.
DeAngelo McNeil had a team-high 15 points for City High while Antonio Turner added nine for the Little Hawks.
City High dropped to 3-7 on the season and 2-5 in MVC play.

Marion bolted to a 23-12 lead after the opening quarter and never let Clear Creek Amana back into the game in a 60-37 win over the Clippers in a WAMAC West Division matchup on Friday in Marion.
Clear Creek Amana dropped to 2-9 with its fourth straight loss and fell to 2-5 in WAMAC West Division play.
Marion built a 37-18 halftime lead and moved to 6-5 on the season and 4-3 in WAMAC West play.
Darius Moore led Clear Creek Amana with 12 points as the Clippers were held to a season-low scoring output.
