During its unbeaten start to the season top-ranked City High has made a habit of starting fast.

Senior Ashley Joens made sure Little Hawks’ string of strong starts and wins continued on Tuesday.

Joens scored 32 of her game-high 36 points in the opening half as Class 5A No. 1 City High rolled to an 83-46 win over No. 14 Cedar Rapids Washington in Iowa City.

The strong start from Joens helped City High to a 45-21 halftime lead as the Little Hawks improved to 12-0 with its seventh straight win by at least 30 points.

Aubrey Joens added 15 points and Sam Greving had 11 for City High.

Sammy Mia had 10 points for Cedar Rapids Washington (7-4) which had a four-game winning streak snapped with the loss.

Saunders Lifts West High Past Linn-Mar

Rachael Saunders is back in the West High lineup and back to producing like an all-state player.

Saunders scored a game-high 15 points as Class 5A third-ranked West High pulled away for a 54-33 win over Linn-Mar on Tuesday in Marion.

West High outscored Linn-Mar 16-4 in the second quarter to break open a tie game while improving to 9-2 on the season with its fifth straight win.

Linn-Mar dropped to 2-10 with its fourth consecutive loss.

Logan Cook and Audrey Koch each had eight points for West High while Cailyn Morgan added six.

West Branch Winning Streak Snapped at Wilton

A slow start and some hot shooting by Wilton spelled the end to a five-game West Branch winning streak.

Wilton jumped to a 19-6 first-quarter lead and shot 59 percent from the field on Tuesday in a 77-42 win over West Branch in a River Valley Conference matchup in Wilton.

West Branch dropped to 8-5 on the season and 7-5 in RVC play with its first loss since December 15.

Tatum Koenig had 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead West Branch while Sasha Koenig added 11 points.

Taya Young had five rebounds, two assists and two blocks for the Bears.

Kortney Drake had a game-high 22 points to lead four Wilton players in double figures.

Emily Lange had 19 points and eight rebounds for Wilton as the Beavers won for the fifth time in six games.

Regina Rolls Past Durant

Regina raced to a 18-3 lead four minutes into the game on its way to a 77-30 win over Durant (0-15) in a River Valley Conference South Division contest in Durant on Tuesday.

Mary Crompton scored a game-high 17 points as Class 2A ninth-ranked Regina improved to 9-3 on the season and 8-2 in RVC play with its third consecutive win.

Kennedy Wallace had 10 points, Anna Martin added nine and Lauren Gaarde, Greyson Dumont and Maeve Dunne all had eight for Regina.

Regina had seven of its season-high 11 3-pointers in the first half while building a 50-10 halftime lead.

Clear Creek Amana Wins Sixth Straight

Clear Creek Amana ran its winning streak to six with a 60-33 win over Independence on Tuesday in Independence.

The Clippers improved to 7-4 on the season and 5-1 in WAMAC West Division play while Independence dropped to 1-11.
