4A No. 6 Linn-Mar at 4A No. 1 West High

Two long-time state powers meet on Tuesday in a matchup of MVC Mississippi Division leaders at West High.

Top-ranked West High is the lone remaining unbeaten team in Class 4A and can set a new state record for consecutive home wins with a victory over the Lions.

Linn-Mar lost its final two games of December but came out of the holiday break with a 60-46 win over Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

The Lions are led by 6-foot-5 junior Trey Hutcheson who averages 17.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Solon at Regina: The annual meeting between rivals comes on Saturday at Regina with the Regals trying to avenge a 67-63 loss in Solon last season.

City High vs. Muscatine: The Little Hawks take their shot at slowing the state’s top scorer Joe Wieskamp on Saturday at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

Mount Pleasant at Liberty High: The Lightning get a chance to see how they stack up against one of the best in 3A when the seventh-ranked Panthers come calling on Tuesday.

Player to Watch

Joe Wieskamp, Sr., Muscatine

If you haven’t watched Wieskamp its worth the trip to the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids on Saturday to catch the Iowa recruit.

The 6-foot-6 Wieskamp is leading the state in scoring at 35.5 points per game and his 15.4 rebounds per game rank second in the state.

Wieskamp is shooting 60 percent from the field and has already scored more than 40 points twice this season.

Who’s Hot

Even Brauns, Soph., Regina

Brauns opened the season strong but has taken his game to the next level in the first two games of 2018.

The sophomore center averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a pair of games last week highlighted by a 21-point, eight-rebound effort against two-time defending 3A champion Cedar Rapids Xavier.

Brauns shot 70 percent from the field last week and is averaging 14.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season.
