Girls Basketball Roundup: West Branch Pushes Win Streak to Five

After a strong finish to 2017 West Branch has picked up where it left off in the new year.
West Branch stretched its winning streak to five with a 52-22 win over Northeast on Friday in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup in Goose Lake.
Tatum Koenig scored 21 points and had six steals and five assists as West Branch improved to 8-4 on the season and 7-4 in RVC play.
West Branch opened 2018 with a 66-23 win over Durant on Tuesday and recorded its second consecutive lopsided win of the year on Friday.
Sasha Koenig added 10 points for West Branch and Abbey Fryauf had five rebounds four assists and two steals for the Bears.
Northeast dropped to 3-8 on the season and 1-7 in RVC play with the loss.
West High Starts 2018 Strong
West High roared to a 48-18 halftime lead and cruised to a 76-28 win over Dubuque Wahlert (3-8) in its first game of 2018 on Friday.
Class 5A third-ranked West High improved to 8-2 with its fourth straight win and remained unbeaten at 7-0 in Mississippi Valley Conference play.
Emma Koch led four West High players in double figures with 17 points while Lauren Zacharias added 16 points for the Women of Troy.
Cailyn Morgan and Matayia Tellis each added 11 points for West High while Logan Cook chipped in with eight points.
Senior all-stater Rachael Saunders scored six points in her season debut.
