Following a month filled with close calls and near misses Clear Creek Amana will enter 2018 with some momentum. Darius Moore made sure of that on Tuesday.

Moore scored 34 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Clear Creek Amana to an 80-66 win over Williamsburg in a WAMAC West Division matchup in Tiffin.

Clear Creek Amana opened the season with four consecutive losses by 10 points or fewer including a one-point, last second loss to Mount Vernon and six-point set backs to Dyersville Beckman and Center Point-Urbana.

The Clippers closed the 2017 portion of their schedule by winning two of its final three games after scoring a season-high 80 points on Tuesday.

Moore led four Clippers in double figures on Tuesday as Jordan Wolfe and TJ Bollers each had 12 points and Tyler Schrepfer added 10 points.

Clear Creek Amana improved to 2-5 and 2-3 in WAMAC West play while Williamsburg dropped to 2-4 and 2-3 in WAMC West games.

Cornwell Powers West Branch Past Mid-Prairie

Beau Cornwell and West Branch have a two-week break before returning to action on January 2.

It is a welcome rest for Cornwell after the work the West Branch junior put in over the last 24 hours.

Cornwell followed up a 38-point, 12 rebound double-double in a 79-71 loss to Camanche on Monday night by pouring in 30 points, grabbing nine rebounds and handing out seven assists in a 68-59 win over Mid-Prairie on Tuesday.

Cornwell also had six steals in the win on Tuesday as West Branch improved to 4-5 on the season and 3-5 in River Valley Conference play with its second win in three games.

Tanner Lukavsky added 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals and Ben Thompson had 14 points in the win.

Mid-Prairie dropped to 2-6 on the season and 2-6 in RVC play with its second straight loss.

Liberty High Drops 2nd Straight

Fort Madison scored 47 second-half points to break open a five-point game at the half in a 68-45 win over Liberty High on Tuesday in North Liberty.

Liberty High dropped to 3-5 on the season with its second straight loss while Fort Madison improved to 4-3.

Fort Madison led 21-16 at the half and pulled away in the final two quarters.

Andre Brandon led Liberty High with 14 points while Ethan O’Donnell added eight.

Iziah Poulsen, Ronnie Williams and Moses Bolar all had six points for the Lightning.

Kaleb Cresswell had a game-high 25 points to lead Fort Madison and Treavor Kokjohn added 17.

No. 7 Cascade Hands Regina First Loss

Class 2A seventh-ranked Cascade outscored No. 10 Regina by 18 in the second half to break open a one-point game at the half in a 69-50 win over the Regals in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup on Tuesday in Cascade.

Jake Phillips had 14 points and Even Brauns had 12 for Regina which dropped to 5-1 on the season and 5-1 in RVC play.

Josh Supple had a game-high 24 points to lead Cascade as the Cougars improved to 8-0 on the season and 7-0 in RVC play.
