IOWA CITY – Setting two school records in a span of an hour is a once in a career type of moment for many athletes.

For most athletes it’s the type of performance that is the stuff of dreams.

For City High sophomore Forrest Frazier its becoming just another day in the pool.

Frazier continued his assault on the City High record book on Saturday setting new school records in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley at the Little Hawk Invite at the Mercer Park Aquatic Center.

“He had a couple of good swims, he broke a couple of his school records again but those are still a little bit off of his best times,” City High coach Zane Hugo said. “He’ll get a little pat on the back and then move on that’s really all it is.”

Frazier broke his own school record in the 200 IM finishing second to defending state champion Caleb Aman of Bettendorf in 1:54.37.

The only win of the day for City High came from Frazier in the 100 breaststroke in a school and meet record time of 58.03.

Frazier, who competed at the Junior Nationals at the University of Iowa last week has posted better times in both events out of the high school season.

Still, the thrill of breaking a record is something that Frazier says never grows old.

“The records are a big deal obviously and I’m really excited to lower a school record or break a new one but they aren’t my best times,” Frazier said. “They are just mid-season training meets coming off my taper but it’s not something to blow over, I’m happy when I get them.”

Frazier helped City High to a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay and a fourth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay as City High placed sixth as a team with 259.5 points.

Ankeny won the team title with 346 points while Cedar Falls was second with 317 and Bettendorf was third with 295.

“We have four or five of the top teams in the state and it’s always good to get a little bit of different competition out of the MVC,” Hugo said. “It’s always good to see our kids be competitive with strong teams around the state.”

On Tuesday West High edged City High by four points in the annual cross-town dual between the two Mississippi Valley Conference rivals.

At Saturday’s eight team invite the Trojans were still four points better than the Little Haws in the same pool.
Izaak Hajek finished third in the 100 butterfly and sixth in the 100 backstroke and Ben Berhow was second behind Frazier in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 freestyle as West High finished with 263.5 points.

“Emotionally it’s hard to get up for two meets like that and we placed a little more of an emphasis on the dual and we trained hard Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,” West High coach Byron Butler said. “Today was just about their effort level and I think everybody was trying their absolute hardest on every single race and that is important. I’m very pleased with the effort.”

Aman won both the 200 IM and 100 butterfly as Bettendorf won four events.

The defending state champ edged Frazier in the 200 IM in 1:52.93 and won the 100 fly in 52.46.

In the 100 breaststroke Frazier finished more than three seconds in front of Berhow and teammate Louis Stephan who tied for second in 1:01.61.

Frazier already owns the school record in the backstroke and set a new top mark in the 100 butterfly on Tuesday while win two individual events and swimming on two winning relay teams in the dual against West High.

“I was pretty happy with it,” Frazier said of his performance on Saturday. I’m not feeling the greatest coming off of my taper from last week but I was pretty happy with the times but it was really about going out and racing and it was a really good day or racing and that made it a lot of fun.”
