For the second time Your Prep Sports is honoring the top volleyball players in its coverage area.

The Your Prep Sports volleyball team recognizes six of the top volleyball players in the area for their performance this season.

This year’s six-member squad, made up of five hitters and a setter features Division I recruits, all-state performers and state tournament qualifiers.

West High senior Colby Greene is the captain of the 2017 squad after a strong senior season in which she collected 300 kills, directed West High to 22 wins and a top-10 ranking in Class 5A while earning all-state honors.

Colby Greene (Captain)

6-3, Senior, West High

A three-year varsity starter, Greene closed an impressive career with her best season this fall.

Greene posted career bests with 300 kills and 76 blocks while leading West High to a 22-16 record and a spot in the Class 5A regional finals.

The Southeast Missouri State recruit was one of only two 5A players with at least 300 kills and 75 blocks and hit a career-high .290 in her final season.

With her strong senior season Greene closed her prep career with 633 kills and 182 blocks.

An improved all-around player, Greene ranked fourth on the team with 130 digs on her way to earning first-team Mississippi Valley Conference honors and was a second-team all-state pick by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. 

Alex Wiese

6-1, Junior, Regina

In her first varsity season at Regina Wiese was a force on both sides of the net.

Wiese hammered a team-high 365 kills and ranked second on the team with 36 blocks while helping Regina to a 28-9 record and its first state tournament appearance since 2013.

A strong player in every rotation, Wiese ranked second on the team with 395 digs and finished third with 35 ace serves.

Wiese did her best work at the net where she hit a team-best .310 while pounding a career-high 365 kills which ranked 17th in Class 2A.

The junior averaged 3.8 kills in 12 postseason sets and had double digit kills in all three regional wins.

Shauntina Williams

5-10, Junior, Clear Creek Amana

A stalwart in the Clipper lineup since her freshman season Williams had her breakthrough this fall.

Williams led Clear Creek Amana in kills, blocks and hitting percentage on her way to being a unanimous first-team WAMAC West Division and Class 4A honorable mention all-state selection.

An explosive athlete, Williams hit .326 from her middle position while ranking 11th in Class 4A with 353 kills.

Williams led the Clippers with 58 blocks and added 103 digs and 23 ace serves while helping Clear Creek Amana to a 23-20 record.

Jaedynn Evans

5-9, Junior, Regina

Evans made a splash in her first season at Regina ranking second on the team with 275 kills while helping the Regals reach the Class 2A state tournament.

An impressive athlete that excels in every spot on the court, Evans ranked third on the team with 369 digs while being named to the River Valley Conference Elite team and earning honorable mention all-state honors.

The Central Michigan commit added 31 ace serves and 29 blocks as Regina finished the season 28-9.

Evans had a career-high 23 kills in a three-set win over Bellevue and averaged 3.2 kills per set on the season.

LeeAnn Potter

5-9, Sophomore, Liberty High

The play of Potter was one of the biggest reasons the debut season for the Liberty High volleyball program was a success.

Potter led the Lightning with 307 kills and 345 digs while helping Liberty to 13 wins in its first season.

In her first varsity season Potter earned Class 3A all-district honors after adding 23 ace serves.

Rachael Nelson (Setter)

5-7, Junior, Solon

Nelson did a little bit of everything for the Spartans this season ranking in the top four on the team in kills, ace serves, assists, digs and blocks.

A three-year starter, Nelson led the Spartans in assists for the third straight season with a career-high 487.

Nelson did more than just set, ranking third on the team with 148 kills and 42 blocks while being named to the WAMAC East Division second team.

She also had 23 ace serves and collected 211 digs while helping Solon to a 15-21 record.
