A program coming off consecutive one-loss season usually isn’t interested in moral victories after close loses.

Regina came away from just its fourth loss in the past three seasons with plenty of good feelings on Saturday.

Class 2A sixth-ranked Regina (1-2) pushed nationally ranked and defending Missouri Class 4 state champion Incarnate Word to the limit on Saturday before falling 63-58 in overtime at the Norm Stewart Classic at Columbia College.

Kennedy Wallace had five of Regina’s 10 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 15 points to lead four Regina players in double figures.

Alex Wiese had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds while Greyson Dumont had 13 points and Lauren Gaarde added 10.

Incarnate Word, ranked No. 16 nationally by USA Today, held Regina scoreless in overtime while improving to 3-0 on the season.

The Red Knights were led by DePaul recruit Sonya Morris who had 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists while Nakay Jackson-Morris added 14 points as Incarnate Word had four players in double figures.

Regina led by as many as seven points in the second quarter, taking its biggest lead at 31-24.

The Regals went 7-of-10 from 3-point range in the first half and trailed 35-34 at intermission.

Dumont was 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in the first half and had 11 of her 11 points in the opening half.

Regina shot 50 percent from the field for the game, including 10-of-21 from 3-point range while playing without all-state guard and last year’s leading scorer Mary Crompton who missed her third straight game with an injury.

Dumont had six rebounds for Regina while Wallace had a team-high six assist in the loss.

Alexa Lehman added nine points for Regina which hosts Mid-Prairie on Tuesday.

Smith Scores 22 as Solon Bounces Back With Win Over Washington

Solon bounced back from a loss to top-ranked Marion on Friday with a 53-46 win over Washington in a non-conference contest at Solon on Saturday.

Senior Brianna Smith had a team-high 22 points as Solon improved to 2-2 on the season.

Washington dropped to 1-3 with its third straight loss.
