Girls Basketball Roundup: City High Rolls in Season Opener

City High opened its season with a bang on Tuesday.
Class 5A fourth-ranked City High scored 34 first-quarter points on its way to an 80-32 win over Linn-Mar in a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup at City High.
Ashley Joens scored a game-high 26 points and Aubrey Joens added 16 as City High (1-0) built a 53-15 halftime lead and cruised to a win in its season opener.
Ella Cook, Paige Rocca and Samantha Greving all scored seven points for City High and Rose Nkumu added six for the Little Hawks.
Linn-Mar (0-3) was led by Macey Miller with nine points while Megan Murphy and Skyler Presler each had six.

West High sprinted to a 40-10 halftime lead and rolled to a 70-35 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division matchup in Cedar Rapids.
Logan Cook had a game-high 18 points and Lauren Zacharias added 13 as Class 5A third-ranked West High improved to 2-0 on the season.
Cailyn Morgan and Emma Koch each had eight points for West High.
Erica Oler had 10 points to lead Cedar Rapids Jefferson (0-3).

Regina Rolls Past Durant
Class 2A second-ranked Regina picked up its first win of the season with a 61-24 win over Durant on Tuesday in a River Valley Conference South Division matchup at Regina.
Regina improved to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in RVC South Division play while Durant dropped to 0-3 and 0-2 in RVC play.
