Isaac Vollstedt averaged more than 100 rushing yards in three playoff games to help Regina return to the 1A title game for the second straight season.
On Tuesday, Vollstedt was rewarded for his efforts being named to the Iowa Newspaper Association 1A all-state team for the second straight season.
A third-team pick a year ago, Vollstedt was a second-team selection as a running back after rushing for 1,238 yards and 18 touchdowns leading Regina to a 10-3 record and its second consecutive 1A runner-up finish.
Vollstedt cracked the 100-yard mark in three of Regina’s four postseason games including a 157-yard performance in a 28-7 loss to Van Meter in the 1A title game.
The 6-foot, 200-pound Vollstedt averaged 7.7 yards per attempt this season and also caught 17 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior Jake Phillips joined Vollstedt on the 1A all-state squad, earning second-team honors as a receiver.
Phillips led Regina with 46 receptions for 644 yards and six touchdowns and also rushed for 329 yards and six scores.
A versatile 6-foot, 200-pound athlete, Phillips also passed for a touchdown and returned a kickoff for a score.
One of the biggest reasons responsible for the success of Phillips was senior lineman Steve Sehl who earned third team all-state honors.
The 6-foot-3, 275-pound Sehl anchored a Regina offensive line that helped the Regals average 196 rushing yards per game and also made 31 tackles and had four sacks as a defensive tackle.
West Branch had four players earn all-state honors led by first-team selections Ben Thompson and Beau Cornwell.
Thompson earned first team honors as a receiver after catching a team-high 40 passes for 663 yards and a school-record 11 touchdowns.
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound senior set a school record with 176 receiving yards in a win over Durant and tied the single-game record for touchdown grabs with three against Jesup.
Junior Beau Cornwell was a first-team pick as a place kicker after connecting on 28-of-29 extra points and connecting on eight of 11 field goal attempts.
Cornwell hit a game-winning 42-yard field goal against Durant for his career long.
Senior offensive tackle Jacob Barnhart was a second-team all-state pick for the second year in a row while senior defensive back Jacob Graves was also named to the second team for a second straight season.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Barnhart anchored a West Branch offensive line that helped the Bears to a 9-1 record and a spot in the 1A playoffs.
Graves made 30 tackles and had two interceptions to earn second-team honors as a defensive back.
He also rushed for 612 yards and eight touchdowns and caught 48 passes for 588 yards and eight touchdowns.
