When Jim White stepped down as Solon softball coach last month he did so with the hope the position would remain in the family.
That became reality on Tuesday when Solon activities director Zach Wigle announced that Erin White had accepted the position to replace her husband pending board approval.
Erin White coached Solon from 2007-2010 lead the Spartans to the Class 2A title in 2007 and served as seventh grade coach last season.
“We aren’t taking for granted it will happen but that is the ideal situation,” Jim White said of Erin taking over last month. “She had to wait while I was coaching and I know she is excited to get back into being a head coach.”
Jim White resigned at Solon on September 28 after winning 995 games and seven state championships in a 23-year career at Clear Creek Amana and Solon.
He spent the last five years at Solon leading the Spartans to a 186-33 record, four state tournament berths, two state title game appearances and the 2015 Class 3A state title.
When he resigned last month White said he was following a plan he and Erin had made five years earlier.
“Our plan was always for me to coach for five years and she reminded me that this was going to be five years,” White said last month. “She is excited to get back to being a head coach, she gave a little fist pump when I told her.”
Erin White takes over a Solon team that went 30-13 last season and lost to Albia in a Class 3A regional final.
