On Friday night Solon senior Tyler Linderbaum will try to extend his high school football career when top-ranked Solon (9-0) hosts Decorah in a Class 3A playoff opener.
Before he attempts to help Solon keep its season alive Linderbaum will be officially honored for securing a spot in what will be his final game as a prep.
Linderbaum has been selected to play in the annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl and will be presented with his jersey for the Jan. 6 all-star event in a ceremony at Solon high school on Friday at 2:45 p.m.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive tackle and center is a three-year starter and was a first-team all-state selection last season.
An Iowa commit, Linderbaum is the first Solon player to be selected for the prestigious all-star event that will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Linderbaum has been a leader on a Solon defense that completed one of the most impressive regular seasons in program history.
The Spartans posted six shutouts and allowed a total of 21 points in nine regular season games while holding opponents to 122 total yards and 46 rushing yards per game.
Linderbaum has played a big role in the success of the Solon defense, ranking third on the team with 23.5 tackles including two for loss and a sack.
