Regina Returns to State Meet After One-Year Absence

After a one-year absence the Regina girls cross country team is headed back to the state meet.
Kennedy Scott placed 11th and Molly Vittetoe was 12th as eighth-ranked Regina finished second at the Class 2A state qualifier at Kickers Soccer Complex in Iowa City on Thursday to secure a spot at next week’s state meet.
Fourth-ranked Monticello won the team title with 26 points followed by Regina with 79 and Danville with 107.
Scott led four Regina runners that finished in the top 20 with an 11th place finish in 22:18.05.
Vittetoe was 12th in 22:22.42 while Lauren Gaarde placed 16th in 22:28.97.
Nourah Abusada finished 18th in 22:39.2 and Emma Welter was 22nd in 23:15.24.
Monticello senior Paige Holub won the individual title in a time of 20:47.9 and teammate Taylor McDonald was second in 21:22.46.
Regina senior Nathan Meyer secured an individual state meet berth with a third-place finish in a time of 18:04.51.
Meyer finished behind the Tipton duo of Ben Ellis and Caleb Shumaker.
Ellis won the individual title in 17:51.38 while Shumaker was second in 18:01.02 to lead Tipton to the team title with 37 points.
Monticello was second with 87 points and East Marshall was third with 96.
Regina finished seventh with 137.
