Volleyball Roundup: West High goes 1-3, City High 3-2 at MVC Tournament

West High went 1-3 and City High finished 3-2 at the Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball tournament on Saturday in Iowa City.
Both teams went 1-2 in Pool A play at the 14-team conference tournament with Class 5A No. 8 West High falling to 4A No. 2 Dubuque Wahlert in the championship bracket quarterfinals and City High winning back-to-back matches to win the consolation bracket.
West High defeated City High 21-12, 21-15 in the pool play opener for both teams.
The Women of Troy followed with a 21-13, 8-21, 15-9 loss to 5A No. 4 Cedar Rapids Jefferson and a 10-21, 21-18, 15-11 loss to Dubuque Senior.
City High defeated Dubuque Senior 21-11, 21-13 and fell to Cedar Rapids Jefferson 21-11, 21-14.
Dubuque Wahlert rallied for a 22-25, 25-17, 15-10 win over West High (21-15) in the championship bracket quarterfinals.
City High (15-17) closed the day with back-to-back sweeps of Cedar Rapids Kennedy (25-22, 26-24) and Cedar Rapids Washington (25-16, 25-21) in the consolation bracket.
Class 5A top-ranked Cedar Falls went 6-0 on its way to the MVC title, knocking off Cedar Rapids Jefferson 25-21, 25-13 in the championship match.
