Solon Secures District Title With Win Over West Burlington

For the second time this season Solon had a string of consecutive shutouts come to an end on Friday but the Spartans’ unbeaten season and district dominance continued.
Kendrick Harris and Hunter Kula each ran for a pair of touchdowns and Cam Miller threw for two scores as Class 3A top-ranked Solon secured the District 5 title with a 42-7 win over West Burlington at Spartan Stadium.
Solon improved to 8-0 with the win and moved to 6-0 in District 5 play with all six district wins coming by 35 points or more.
Harris rushed for 136 yards on 19 carries and Kula added 89 yards on 15 attempts as Solon rolled up 239 yards on the ground.
Miller threw for 182 yards and connected with Adam Bock and AJ Coons on scoring strikes to help Solon finish with 421 total yards.
The Spartans jumped to a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the game when Harris scored on an 8-yard touchdown run.
Harris added his second touchdown run, a 3-yard with 1:30 left in the opening quarter that put Solon on top 13-0.
West Burlington cut the lead to 13-7 and snapped a string of 10 consecutive scoreless quarters by the Solon defense with a 36-yard touchdown run with 10:32 left in the opening half.
Solon answered with two touchdown passes from Miller in the final five minutes of the half to take a 28-7 lead into intermission.
Miller hit Bock with an 8-yard touchdown pass and then found Coons for a 20-yard scoring strike with 1:12 left in the opening half.
Coons led Solon with four catches for 95 yards.
Kula capped the scoring with third-quarter touchdown runs of 6 and 1 yards.
Solon held West Burlington scoreless over the final two quarters and has now allowed 21 total points in eight games this season.
The Spartans will attempt to complete their first unbeaten regular season when they host Fairfield (2-6) in the regular season finale for both teams next Friday at Spartan Stadium.
