Clippers Notch Best WAMAC Meet Showing in Program History With Third Place Finish

Clear Creek Amana coach Ben Robison said last weekend he liked where his team was at heading into the season’s home stretch.
The Clippers showed the reason for that optimism on Thursday at the WAMAC Conference meet.
Clear Creek Amana logged its best WAMAC Conference finish ever, placing third at the 16-team meet at Vinton-Shellsburg High School with 67 points.
Class 3A No. 11 Clear Creek Amana put four runnerss in the top 14 and finished 11 points behind team champion Mount Vernon-Lisbon and just three points off the pace of runner-up Marion.
“My guys raced incredibly well tonight; it was, without a doubt our most solid race performance of the season,” Robison said. “Anytime you can have four of your guys bring home all-conference honors, you’re bound to have a good night.”
Freshman Brandon Barker matched the WAMAC meet finish in program history, placing fifth in a time of 16:54.
Sophomore Nick O’Connor was ninth in 17:05 and Jack Sexton was 10th in 17:06.
Cole Liebe rounded out the top-15 finishers for the Clippers, placing 14th in 17:17.
3A No. 5 Mount Vernon-Lisbon had three runners in the top seven on their way to the team title with 56 points.
No. 6 Marion was second with 64 points led senior Jeremy Fopma won the individual title in 15:45.
Solon placed 12th with 321 points and was led by Payton Phillip who was 51st in 18:22.

Conway Leads Solon to Third Place Finish
The first conference meet was a successful one for Solon freshman Kiersten Conway.
Conway finished eighth at the WAMAC Conference Meet on Thursday to help Solon to a third-place finish in a tight team race at Vinton-Shellsburg High School.
Class 3A No. 15 Benton Community won the team title with 88 points as the top four teams were separated by 10 points.
Marion was second with 82 while Solon was third with 96 and Anamosa was fourth with 98.
Conway led a trio of Spartans that finished in the top 20 with her eighth-place performance in a time of 20:16.
Nicole Shafer was 18th and Erin Kerkhoff finished 18th both in 20:52.
Center Point-Urbana sophomore Adrianna Katcher claimed the individual title in 18:30, 12 seconds faster than runner-up Sophia Gilbert of Benton Community.
Clear Creek Amana placed 10th with 295 points and was led by junior Kaylie Barker who finished 32nd in 21:24.
