Iowa City – Fran McCaffery and the Iowa coaching staff are off to a great start in their 2019 recruiting class.

The staff garnered a commitment from 4-star forward Patrick McCaffery on Thursday night. Patrick just so happens to be the son of Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery and the younger brother of Iowa freshman, Connor McCaffery.

Many figured that this is what Patrick would do given his ties to the University and the Basketball program and it finally happened. 

“It may come as a big surprise, but I have decided to commit to play for my father at the University of Iowa. Go Hawks.” Patrick said via twitter in regards to his commitment. 

Patrick is a long, lanky forward that has the ability to score from the inside and outside. One of his biggest assets is how smart he is on the court. You can truly tell that he gets the game and that will only aid him as he continues to develop at West High.

Most recruiting services rank Patrick as a top-50 player in his class. However, he didn't really see any offers come piling in like most top 50 kids would. He said he heard from a couple other schools, but nobody really came at Patrick hard given the situation with Fran at the helm at Iowa.

The Hawkeyes likely open up four scholarhips in the class of 2019 and Patrick will now occupy one slot. There could be more scholarships available or there could be less depending on how the situation with C.J. Fredrick – a class of 2018 commit – plays out. 

Patrick now likely turns his attention to his junior season at West High and chatting with other 2019 prospects about the perks of playing at the University of Iowa. The Hawkeye staff is in on some big ones early on in Trayce Jackson-Davis, D.J. Carton, and E.J. Lidell who will visit this upcoming weekend for the homecoming football game against the Illinois Fighting Illini.
