The Clear Creek Amana boys cross country team had three runners finish in the top 10 on its way to a runner-up team finish at the IMS Invitational on Monday in Wellman.

Freshman Brandon Barker finished third in a time of 17:22.48 to lead three Clippers in the top nine as Clear Creek Amana finished four points behind team champion Mid-Prairie with 49 points.

Sophomore Nick O’Connor placed eighth in 17:26.81 for Clear Creek Amana while Jack Sexton was ninth in 17:50.72

Cody Mertens of Mount Pleasant won the individual title in a time of 16:49.7 better than 25 seconds in front of runner-up Floyd Evans of Mid-Prairie.

Solon placed seventh with 190 points and was led by senior Carl Richey who placed 23rd in 18:49.04.

Nicol Leads Solon to Runner-Up Finish

Sophie Nicol finished seventh to lead the Solon girls to a runner-up finish with 75 points.

Nicol led four Solon runners that finished in the top 20 as the Spartans were second behind team champion Mid-Prairie.

Erin Kerkhoff was 14th in 22:34.73, Ella Duster was 15th in 22:41.72 and Nicole Shafer was 16th in 22:42.16.

Clear Creek Amana finished seventh with 154 points and was paced by Kaylie Barker who finished 17th in 22:51.76.
