Traevis Buchanan was already considered one of the top options in a West High offense loaded with talented playmakers.

On Friday Buchanan offered a demonstration as to why he holds that distinction.

Buchanan caught seven passes for a career-high 202 yards and three touchdowns to help Class 4A second-ranked West High to a 49-0 win over Burlington at Bracewell Stadium.

West High improved to 6-0 with the win, moving to 2-0 in District 8 play with its first shutout since blanking Ottumwa 28-0 in the opening round of the 2014 playoffs.

Buchanan caught touchdown passes of 6, 58 and 40 yards from senior quarterback Evan Flitz as West High rolled up 445 yards of total offense.

Flitz also tossed a 19-yard scoring strike to Jalen Gaudet in the second quarter as West High took a 35-0 halftime lead.

Flitz finished 15-of-22 passing for 289 yards and four touchdowns.

Buchanan entered the game with 33 receptions for 498 yards and five touchdowns on the season, numbers that nearly exceeded his production from a year ago (30 catches, 549 yards).

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound senior built on those numbers with the best game of his career on Friday.

The 202 receiving yards are the most for a West High wideout since Oliver Martin had 203 in the 2015 season opener against Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

Andre White rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns and the West High defense held Burlington (0-6) to 41 yards of total offense and five first downs.

West High returns to action next Friday hosting Cedar Rapids Kennedy (5-1, 2-0) at Trojan Field.
